Burgmueller was born in Regensburg, Germany on December 4, He died in Beaulieu, a French town near Paris, on February 13, He was the son of Johann August Franz, a well-regarded scholar, organist, and conductor of the time.
His brother, Norbert, was an even more gifted composer who died at the age of 26 leaving an unfinished symphony. Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmuller lived many years in France and composed piano music in a light style for performances in Parisian salons. Many of his works are included in volumes of piano music for study by young pianists and his work is often featured in piano recitals.
